I have been struggling to reflect on my personal history and will have it come through as it is meant to by the end of the month in my sharing. However, I want to share a special message from Gus – the dog I have written about and that I have joint custody with from his mom, Deb. Gus was a rescue dog. He is now an integral part of my personal therapy program.

A Channeled Message from My Best Therapist – Gus

I am here to tell you only Love is real and no matter what you must go through there is kindness in this world. My mom saw me and felt my cry for love.

A while back a rather goofy man named Charles came into my life and we have become best buds. I am now his nephew, and he is my uncle. I knew early on, even though I was initially cautious of him and gave him the full sniff test, we were destined to be together.

He takes me for my walks, and I spend a good part of the day with him. He’s wanting me to tell all of you that my kingdom is here to help you remember that love does matter. You humans make it so complicated and it’s about caring for one another – without exception. I was extremely ill when my mom found me. I was able to find a new and beautiful life because she cared.

I have a beautiful mountain home, and I live both in the upper kingdom with my mom and down under with my uncle. My Uncle had a collection of stuffed ducks – which I immediately claimed as mine! We have the best times when I play, catch me if you can with those ducks! He also loves to hug and squeeze me, and he makes funny noises and gives me kisses.

When I feel bad both my mom and he are on guard and immediately get me checked. I sense when I am going to the vet and know they are looking out for me,

Uncle’s friend – John – calls me a Zen Dog Master. He walked with us when he visited us and marveled that I would stop often to just gaze upward. I do see things I think humans don’t and I know I have angels that watch over our kingdom. John also gave me a 3-hour massage I’ll never forget. I am working on Uncle to get him out here again.

I have trained my uncle to feed me out of his hand. I am not like most dogs – I eat a bite at a time and then contemplate the next one. He just gave me a lovely dessert bowl and water bowl and I like those, but there’s nothing like Uncle kneeling and looking into my eyes with every bite I take.

This is all I can share right now. I give my uncle and mom love therapy every day. I also watch my uncle if he’s too long on that laptop thing I come in and drop a toy duck in front of him.

I cherish our life together and he says I have brought the memory of all his pets back to him. I hope this message reminds you to honor all your pets and that we are all here to love and be loved. It’s the greatest therapy of all.

Love, Gus

The Artist Within: Part II

Sharing my remembrance of Jon with “The Artist Within” I want to add these thoughts,

I am so grateful to know so little and have it count so much.

Here are my keys to being the Artist I AM.

Remember: Love is my origin.

This I know: When I remain in my personal spiritual practice and what I have gained through the years –God/Spirit/Universal Energy is for me there is naught against me and there are 100,000 angels watching over me. Life is not an easy do – but it is a priceless gift of opportunity to live from the awareness – Love is my Source of well-being for myself and others.

Everything comes to pass … I can hold on to nothing.

This I know: Ongoing pain and struggle in life is not letting go and moving on. The streams and rivers only flow forward and let me honor where the currency is moving me and trust the Love in my midst to carry me on and sustain me.

There is no “there” to reach … only “here and NOW to be and the more I seek is ever present here and NOW.

This I know: Everything I need as I need it where I need it. I have it …. The more is here in this present moment … claim it, trust it, live it. I move on in Trust – and angels prepare the way before me.

No person, place, nor thing stands in the way of my personal Victory. I am the author of my life.

This I know:  As all of you, I have moved through immense changes in my life and had my losses, deep grief and at times felt betrayed and wounded. There is always a time to address our wounds, and it is vital to heal and bring new understanding to them. However, I am not the walking wounded … I am the walking Victor!

Forgiveness is essential to my body, mind, and spirit.

This I know: I cannot afford to hold animosity, judgments and unforgiveness against anyone. As with my wounds … I must feel what is the reality of the moment and work my way through to where I can let go and move on. Unforgiveness keeps me bound to the past and I give my power away to that person, event, or circumstance. It is not true that I cannot change the past … every time I see it from new light and understanding I change its impact upon myself, and I contribute not only to my own healing but enrich the world consciousness as well.

And finally …

Love carries me onward and home.

This I know:  From birth to birth (death is my birthing on another plane) … Love is my origin … love has carried me through, and love will carry me home. My life and artistry are shining through that Love. The impact I have upon others is solely through that Love.

My canvas is my faith, my courage, my trust to rise through the adversities and challenges I come upon. I am always at choice as to how I respond to what is before me.

Let’s all commit to open to the Artist Within.

Here is my prayer –

Let us express the artist within, free of judgment and imagined sin. Encourage the artist in one another, our gifts here to be seen, expressing heart and soul without judgment or blame, see the light we each bring through the soul’s eternal spring, where condemnation has never been, where it only gives life to the Artist Within.

Love, Charles

The Artist Within

This blog is to honor an eternal friend named Jon. We are witnessing a return to validating prejudice that denies the wonder of our diversity, which is a quest from birth that we are here to express our unique being. I offer this affirmation to celebrate your Being whatever age you are. Beloved, Jon, your heart-print is upon me.

“I celebrate the Artist within me that has created the beauty of my authenticity!”

Jon made his transition by suicide in April of 2009 after intense struggles, emotionally, physically, and coming to terms with his own identity and self-acceptance. I had the privilege of counseling him for a period and I honor the gift of his soul that he imprinted upon me. His health deteriorated, his addictions, and his despair overwhelmed him. He was a gifted artist, and I wrote this in his honor.

The Artist Within

There is an artist within each of us.
Through pain, love, joy, loss, and gain,
The artist emerges, the soul to express.
Yet the harshness of the world can so repress,
the sacred gifts we each possess.

Only when the false judgments we free
do we begin to realize and see,
The wonder that is you and me.
As in nature, there is a purpose for each to be,
a pure essence within, forever true,
an unconditioned love in which to view,
Everyone is here, as a vessel to share,
the artist within, with tender, loving care.

What beauty we shall reveal,
when the artist we no longer conceal.
when we see one another purely and real,
each with unique gifts, our passion to feel,
no longer fearing how others see our living,
but singularly defined by what is ours to be giving.
The artist … opening the soul for all to know,
We are here as a species to evolve and grow.

It is through the artist we find our humanity,
as each piece in a mosaic creates a work of beauty,
we each add onto the other … our artistry.
Let us express the artist within,
free of judgment and imagined sin.
Encourage the artist in one another, our gifts here to be seen,
expressing heart and soul without judgment or blame,
see the light we each bring through the soul’s eternal spring,
where condemnation has never been,
where it is only giving life to the artist within.

There is an artist within each of us, and I create the colors, the content, and the subject of my life canvas through my personal story and journey. We each bring to the canvas of humanity our personal struggles and triumphs and how we have dealt with them contributes to the world we all experience.

Each dawn I awaken to the opportunity to express my heart and soul, and the question: “What can I bring to this soul journey to add to the collective heart and consciousness of humankind?” I may not pose those questions daily; however, they are vital as to what I am creating in my life experience.

There is no magic pill for happiness. At the heart of what all the great Masters and Mystics have taught – that we are always living what we are believing about ourselves and others. May my journey contribute to the world the remembrance we all have value and make the heart-print upon others that Jon made upon me!

A note about artistry, not everyone is an artist in the usually defined sense. We are not all writers, nor do we create sculptures or art on canvas, write music or are on stage and film. The reality for all of us – our lives are a gift and we each have artistry to bring to what we do!

We live in a world that does not always encourage our authentic expression as a soul. We are told early on there are what the world wants us to be and the roles we are to play. Roles defining men/women, and religions that define who we “should be.” instead of celebrating the unique creativity within each of us and encouraging us to enjoy the adventure of self-discovery as to what is our song to sing.

Being the artist means that you have an intention to create your life in the most meaningful, expressive, and loving way you can. It’s not about great accomplishments. In fact, it may be the smallest of things. It’s all about our intention to bring purpose and meaning to our lives.

Remember Oneness!

Lightwork by Autumn Skye Morrison

I have traveled far in this lifetime and know it cannot measure to the journey of eternity I – we are all upon. Soul evolving is the purpose behind all, and creation is ongoing.

We are in a period of chaotic identity shifts that are a part of humanity’s evolving to the opportunity of seeing things in new light and awareness that requires our coming together – or not.

Quotes I recently shared on Facebook from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. –

“We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.”

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be.”

Throughout history, mystics from various faiths have experienced profound insight and heightened awareness. Their insight reflects the same message from Desmond Tutu:

“The God who existed before any religion counts on you to make the oneness of the human family known and celebrated.”

… And Albert Einstein:

“A person experiences life as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. Our task must be to free ourselves from this self-imposed prison, and through compassion, to find the reality of Oneness.

… And Meister Eckhart:

“The Ground of God and the Ground of the Soul are one and the same.”

In the recent sharing of Sarah Alling on our MYOB Zoom nights – see You Tube Recording on our website of February 20th – she stated – “We are to awaken that it is no longer about nations in the plural – it’s the Human Nation we must evolve together.”

This hour is different. We are in a world we cannot escape we are all connected. My life does have impact upon others – and more deeply than I knew. I have a tapestry in my abode with a quote from Mother Teresa:

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love,” emphasizing that even seemingly insignificant acts can have a significant impact when done with genuine love and compassion.

In these times – be aware of those small deeds in your daily life and that the more of us that remember our words, deeds and actions do matter so that future generations can awaken to one Human Nation where all lives matter and Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity is celebrated and a way of life for all.

Mother Nature reflects it – so can we!

The Great Potato Fall!

Potatoes Image

Yes – that’s the title of this Blog and it contains a great lesson of “Slow down, look where you’re going – and some things don’t have the importance you think they should.”

Back in January of 2004, my eldest niece, Sherrie, was working and living with me for a time in West Hollywood. I adore all my four nieces, and it was beautiful to have that time with her. I wanted to prepare her a special dinner that night of this “fall” and had everything planned perfectly – except at the last minute and I realized I wanted baked potatoes – OMG – no potatoes and I wanted her to walk in the apartment with the heavenly smells of dinner and those baked potatoes.

I got into my car and headed immediately to the market – time was so crucial! I quickly got out of my car and rushed across the parking lot to get the potatoes in the oven. However, I tripped on a curb guard and went down with a grand splat! I thought I heard a bone crack but thought I’ll just have a bad bruise. Getting up was another stark reality – the pain was suddenly excruciating, and I was not able to pull myself up. People began to gather, and a packing boy came out to me. The first thing I tried to do was reach into my wallet to give him cash to go in and get the potatoes for me. He said in a very compassionate way – “I don’t think you’re going anywhere, an ambulance is on its way.” From that moment on – the sacred vision of my niece walking into the beautiful aromas of that dinner faded and to the hospital I went.

I was able to call my niece and let her know – hey – I took a fall – I am not at home!

The surgeon indicated that I had a broken femur, and my hip might need replacement. Fortunately, they did not need to replace the hip, but the recovery process was substantial. I required the use of a catheter temporarily until I could resume normal activities. It took over two months before I was able to return home and navigate the stairs to my apartment.

I stayed with my Beloved friend Dr. Elizabeth Marshall in Simi Valley. There were sacred moments in that healing time – the tender care from Dr. Elizabeth, prayers and love from my congregation, friends, and peers. My niece was fully supportive through this healing journey – as well as my other niece, Terrie and my great niece and nephews.

Elizabeth had a mixed breed white dog named Roscoe. Every night, Roscoe would wait by my bedroom door and accompany me to the bathroom whenever I needed to go. What pure love that was to feel and experience.

The most beautiful event was a visit from my friend Joe LaSalle, a physical trainer and amputee. He visited my church one morning in his wheelchair and offered to assist with my full recovery. My insurance would not cover ongoing therapy – Joe was my miracle worker to see me fully healed. He gave me the exercises to practice daily, and I healed fully. At 83 I still jump up and down with JOY whenever I feel that energy to express.

This “potato fall splat” highlighted health and life transitions for all splats. Slow down – look at what really matters – walking for that potato would have been such a kinder experience for my niece to come home to and step back from the sense of urgency whenever possible!

There are urgent moments – catastrophic disasters – urgent care, however, in the daily journey of life we create urgencies that do not exist. Breathe – place your hand on your heart – step back – and allow yourself to lift that stress and reclaim your inner power and strength,

Our deeper soul work doesn’t have to take place out of splats – but from ongoing daily tender care and mindfulness. I seek to live from that Truth – and see the miracles that carried me through that great potato fall!

AWARENESS – Update on a Scam

Awareness

Top scams that will be targeting you in 2025…

With our theme for February being – “What’s Going On?” I realized I am coming up to the 2-year mark of a scam I fell prey to in 2023.

It was emotionally devastating and a loss of funds. I have chosen to carry a story of empowerment from it and free the intensity of the overwhelming judgment and condemnation upon myself that occurred and I carried for months.

Here is the post I shared 2 years ago on Facebook with updates to now:

Dear Facebook Friends

A significant amount of my bank funds was lost due to a scam.

I acted out of fear, believing I had caused Amazon to lose money owed to them. I thought I was dealing with a real Amazon representative, but I wasn’t.

I did what they requested of me and when I asked questions, they gave me answers I believed were true. The one individual I dealt with was courteous and won my trust completely. He even said what a beautiful man I was to be dealing with this so respectfully and with integrity. Because I had quantum trust, I refused to see all the red flags.

Although I reported the fraud to my bank too late to recover the lost funds, I managed to get through that month with the help of two cherished friends I’ve known for 30 years. Grace saw me through as it always has.

I felt stupid, naïve, humiliated, violated, and ashamed. I had to let myself feel those emotions. I can now look back with compassion and forgiveness.

I also sent prayers to all those working without conscience and taking such advantage of others that they would find their way to higher ground and love in their lives.

Last year, I underwent deeper personal therapy using the EMDR modality. I didn’t realize how much pain and guilt I still carried. I came to understand more of how I fell into the emotional quicksand of that scam. I observed the extensive scope of the fraud industry and noted that it affects people of all ages.

I continue to work on the full observance, not judgment, of my life and give myself credit for personal growth and insight.

Mind Your Own Becoming is about transforming our experiences into personal growth, emerging as a victor where we gain new insights and self-worth.

Had I stepped back two years ago – allowed the process of keen observance not reaction out of fear, I would have had a different outcome. Had I consulted two or three of my close friends, they would have immediately advised me to stop and report it as a scam. Shame and guilt took over and I can own that now and have worked on the deeper soul work of forgiveness.

Our times require us to step back and observe not out of reaction and divisiveness but observance and inquiry – “What can I bring that contributes compassion and awareness?”  We are in a time that we must inquire “What’s Going On?” and do what we can to build bridges together of honest and open communication that can lead to new understanding and healing. I do believe in my heart that our views are not as opposite as they seem.

Respect, value, and care for all individuals are essential humanitarian goals. We have a chance for true enlightenment if we focus on building bridges, not walls.

With Love, Charles

Touchstones of Transcendental Love

touchstone

I wrote a piece on “Moments” as a blog – please review it here. I decided to do a new piece, and I am calling it – “Touchstones” – with looking at the following definition:

A touchstone can be any object that represents a special person or significant memory to us.

As a metaphor, a touchstone is any physical or intellectual measure by which the validity or merit of a concept can be tested.

The term ‘touchstone’ is used for any past knowledge or experience that has a strong influence on a person.

Touchstone memories. These are past examples of our resilience during an unexpected event. We can look back on them as evidence of our capability to face new challenges and move through them.

Taking those definitions – I am looking at Touchstones as:

Nature walks – where I have experienced a sense of completeness, motivation, and determination to move on.

Every day now in the mountains I am in nature and seasons. I realize cold seasons are not for everyone, but winter requires my reflection and resilience. I have been in magnificent settings throughout my life, from oceans, to deserts, to tropical and mountain tops.

They all have soul messages if we tap in to listen. Walks by the sea, going out at midnight in the desert and gently hugging sahuaros, hearing the sea within them. Sahuaros store water for the hot desert summers. Breathtaking sunrises upon the beaches and mountain sunrises and sunsets. 360 degrees view on mountain tops, and hugging mountain trees – feeling their endurance and strength. Touchstones.

Events

My ordination, and my first Big Sky Retreat 1976 in the Grand Tetons. A sacred soul moment by a waterfall on an island on Jackson Lake with my HIV Group – Together to Grow – that made it to the then Grand Teton Retreat and a journey through Yellowstone together. My Doctorate Ceremony and my 80th birthday receiving notes of how I had touched people’s lives through my time with the Big Sky Retreat. The last Big Sky Retreat – 2024, overwhelming sadness in letting go and profound JOY in 48 years of service and LOVE.

Places that signify my soul’s journey.

Mountains, oceans, deserts and where I will have my ashes scattered – at Ousel Falls around Big Sky, MT – treasured memories of magnificent friends and peers shared there. Touchstones

Family, peers, friends, and pets that left indelible heart-prints of LOVE.

Precious moments in helping to raise my four nieces with my mom and sister in my 20’s and their families throughout my life. My work with HIV/AIDS in the 80’s and 90’s transformed how I saw myself and life. Having a precious dog – Gus – that  I have joint custody of , a horse, Winnie, I help take care of and realizing how all my pets were messengers of unconditional love and forgiveness.

Honoring my life and that through all the Touchstones reflected above, I have risen to be the soul I am in this hour. I value those memories and that I have deeper forgiveness for myself for the judgments I have made against myself and greater love for all in my life – without exception!

Take time to consider your “Touchstones.”

Self Value

Self Value

I am reviewing writings from years ago and I am updating them with NEW awareness.

Take in this wonderful video from Maya Angelou, The Best Advice Dr. Maya Angelou Has Ever Given—and Received:

That inner space she speaks of is our sacred charge to remember our own value and to live it fully.

All that I have written reflects the ongoing work I was doing on myself and that continues to be.

The person I must hold in the highest regard is myself, not from my ego persona but on the deepest level of my soul! My ego is about presenting myself to others for validation and approval. My soul is seeking to express the origin of my being – and bring forth the uniqueness and authenticity of why I am here!

Writing 20 years ago the following statement: “I have sought validation, approval, acceptance, and love from others. This can be discouraging and exhausting, because everyone may have their view of what I should be living,” and that statement is particularly true of being a minister.

I continued to be on the treadmill of living to please others! The stark reality I know on deeper levels – If I measure my worth by the world and material standards, there is always rejection and disappointment.

I am always living what I am believing – about myself and others! I have written great statements of insight and awareness, and it takes full commitment to clear those patterns of condemnation, denial, and self-depreciation that continue.

I am in the hour living the words I have written with deeper regard for myself from the essence of my soul.

The seeds of genuine change occur when I realize that no person, place, or thing can make me whole. However, I have had individuals, and sacred moments in nature, and events that have reflected to me the remembrance of wholeness – which is my origin.

I do have purpose and accountability in my living, above all to make those heart-prints I have experienced that have stirred the memory wholeness, and the unconditionally loving soul that I am here to be and express.

My best friend is myself, and when I look in the mirror and say, “You have made significant progress – well done,” it indicates genuine self-worth.

Isn’t it wonderful life is not about a destination – but a realization my journey is ever deepening and expanding?

Inquiries Re: “Our Freedom to Be”

Brainy Quote

This Blog is offering questions we all face – and inspired quotes to those questions have encouraged me to rise to a higher view of myself.

Q: Are there limitations or limited beliefs?

“Once I knew only darkness and stillness … my life was without past or future, but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the nature of living.”  – Helen Keller

Her first word – water!

Q: Can respecting limits expand boundaries?

“Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” – Albert Einstein

“In the law of God there is no statute of limitations.”  – Robert Louis Stevenson

Q: What is yours to do and what is yours to free?   2nd Principle of MYOB

“Does anybody really think that they didn’t get what they had because they didn’t have the talent, the strength, the endurance, or the commitment?” – Nelson Mandala

“You cannot let go of anything if you cannot notice that you are holding it.  Admit your weaknesses and watch them morph into your greatest strengths.” – Neale Donald Walsch

Q: Are you truly willing to “begin anew?”

“What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly.”  – Lao Tzu

Q: What do you see as your soul gifts?

“I say follow your bliss and don’t be afraid and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, door will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.”  – Joseph Campbell

Q: Are you utilizing them – your gifts?

“We should never lose sight of the fact that the soul is on the pathway of an endless and ever-expanding experience and that only by expansion can it evolve.” – Ernest Holmes

May these questions stir you to explore your present NOW and claim an ever-richer view of yourself and purpose!

Mind Your Own Becoming (MYOB) – A Soulful Reflection 2025 and Ongoing ACCOUNTABILITY!

celestial hands image

Join Us on Mind Your Own Becoming Thursdays

We are entering our 5th Year of MYOB. This journey began with the impact of 2020 COVID, and the ongoing injustice and brutality brought to our attention in ways we could not look the other way through the murder of George Floyd. Our belief in “others” – those with privilege, others not, our conscious and unconscious prejudices could not be ignored. It was time to face uncomfortable conversations together regarding our history and how we see one another. That was the beginning of Mind Your Own Becoming and countless groups across the country that began.

We have had extraordinary stories in these years, which encompassed not only black/brown abuse, but LGBTQ+, Indigenous, and touching upon violence and mental health issues. At the heart of MYOB is the essential reality – until we are willing to do the deeper soul work of accountability for what we pass on to future generations, nothing changes.

The Indigenous practices of being cognizant of what we are passing on to seven generations plus is something not evident in our American history – or in the world. We all matter in this awakening because we can only evolve together – or NOT. We create Healing bridges with a thimble full of willingness to listen to one another.

MYOB is about the invitation that we can come to know one another authentically, and compassionately through Awareness, Education, Action, and Accountability to open to new perspectives of healing and understanding.

In all I have absorbed in new awareness in these past four years of MYOB – I choose to not define myself by a pronoun although I celebrate the right we have to do so. I am stepping back from defining myself politically and choosing to be more aware of extremes on both sides. I want to see history truthfully. My personal charge is to clear my current prejudices and false judgments about myself and others, and carry forward regard, compassion, and love for all – without exception.

How I live daily impacts those around me through my care, loving, forgiving of myself and others. Humanity is capable of brutality and abuse beyond absorbing. It is also capable of the most profound beauty and magnificence we can imagine. May we plant seeds for future generations to Awaken to their innate beauty and carry forward – seven generations plus!

Do consider joining us on Thursdays on MYOB pm ET and view my weekly blogs on our website.
